Impacts of Extreme Weather Event in Southeast Brazilian Mangrove Forest

چکیده
Climate oscillations are becoming more extreme, and mangroves may be susceptible to changes in physical conditions that can lead mass diebacks. The current study analysed the impacts of an extreme weather event Cananéia-Iguape Coastal System, southeast Brazilian condition area over three years. We used a multiproxy approach, including analyses climatic attributes, structural vegetation, vegetation indices. Damage caused by strong storm hail damage had severe impact on mangrove areas. A meteorological station installed since 2008 recorded maximum wind gust 58 km·h−1 30 May 2019. On Beaufort scale, this speed is classified as wind. After event, there were catastrophic mangrove, with than 90% dead trunks. Vegetation indices reduced, indicating intense changes. NDVI was reduced from 0.72 0.35. LAI confirmed premise, reduction 4.25 0.63. years, natural recovery not occurred. Extreme events have continued occur along coasts, drastically altering landscape. Mangroves been affected these events, depending state health forests, difficulties recovery.

Impacts of Extreme Weather and Climate on Terrestrial Biota
Climate is a driver of biotic systems. It affects individual fitness, population dynamics, distribution and abundance of species, and ecosystem structure and function. Regional variation in climatic regimes creates selective pressures for the evolution of locally adapted physiologies, morphological adaptations (e.g., color patterns, surface textures, body shapes and sizes), and behavioral adapt...

متن کاملThe potential impacts of climate variability and change on health impacts of extreme weather events in the United States.
Extreme weather events such as precipitation extremes and severe storms cause hundreds of deaths and injuries annually in the United States. Climate change may alter the frequency, timing, intensity, and duration of these events. Increases in heavy precipitation have occurred over the past century. Future climate scenarios show likely increases in the frequency of extreme precipitation events, ...
